Buddhist Practices for Daily Life Beyond Meditation: Merit Making

  • Spring City Collective 444 Wisconsin Avenue Waukesha, WI 53186 (map)

The performance of meritorious deeds, also known as merit making, is a fundamental concept in Buddhism which, when accumulated, brings about conducive conditions for success in our spiritual and mundane lives. We will look beyond the daily practice of meditation and hear about making merit from an experienced practitioner of the Dhamma. According to the texts, cultivating merit can be a daily practice that will bring results of happiness and wealth. With dāna (generosity), sīla (conduct), and bhāvanā (mental cultivation) as a foundation for our meritorious actions –  we are living the teachings of the Buddha and increasing our potential for enlightenment one action at a time.
